French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses
Each semester, the FLE Department of the International Relations Office at the Université Gustave Eiffel offers courses in French as a Foreign Language (FLE) and French as a Second Language (FLS) for international students and university staff.
As part of elective course units (UE d'ouverture), and subject to the approval of the academic coordinator, these courses may be eligible for ECTS credits.
University staff can benefit from online FLE courses specifically reserved for them, or attend on-campus FLE courses open to both students and staff.
Registering for FLE classes
A 3-step process:
1. For the first semester 1, fill in the online form (by 15/09/2025).
Online registration is mandatory to attend classes.
2. Take the mandatory assessment test (the link will be sent to you by email).
3. You will receive an email informing you of the schedule and of the group you have been assigned to based on your language level.
IMPORTANT
The opening of a group requires a minimum of 12 participants. Access to classes is subject to availability. Participants will be informed if the group for their level is full or cannot be held.
ATTENDANCE IN THE CLASSES IS MANDATORY.
Course Modalities:
- Semester-long FLE and FLS courses are held once a week, usually in the late afternoon, and run for ten weeks for FLS and twelve weeks for FLE. FLE courses for staff are offered online, once or twice a week during the lunch break, over a ten-week period. See the FLE and FLS schedule for the year 2025-2026.
- FLE courses are offered in a hybrid format (2 hours per week in class on the Marne-la-Vallée campus, plus 1 hour per week online in asynchronous mode via the Elearning/Moodle platform). FLE courses for staff are delivered remotely in synchronous mode via Zoom (2 hours per week for the beginner group and 1 hour per week for the pre-intermediate group).
The FLS course takes place in person (2 hours per week on the Marne-la-Vallée campus). - A syllabus, provided at the beginning of the semester, presents the prerequisites, the objectives, the evaluation methods and the content of the course.
- The courses are free for students, PhD students and staff of Université Gustave Eiffel and are not open to the general public outside of the University.
- The FLE classes are structured around an educational framework based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). They are divided into different levels ranging from A1 to C1.
